Solar power is coming back to the White House.
The Obama administration will install solar panels on top of the first family’s living quarters by next spring. They will heat water for the Obamas and generate some electricity.
President Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the White House in the 1970s, but they were removed by the next president, Ronald Reagan.
Stephen Smith is executive director of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy:
“…We believe that we could get a much higher percentage of renewable energy. So, having the White House put solar panels on is an important symbolic step, but states like Florida and across the country, we should be leading by getting more of this out there by having our utilities have solid [renewable energy] targets that they must meet.”

WMNF Listener SupporterWouldn't it be great if Pres. Obama was just upgrading what Pres. Carter installed 30+ years ago? Carter put it up, Reagan took it down. There would be measured benefit and improved benefit with today's technology.
