Our first guest on the Sustainable Living Program was Dr. Richard Komp, a solar energy expert visiting the area from Maine. Dr. Komp will be giving a presentation in New Port Richey for the West Pasco Habitat for Humanity on November 18. He’ll be talking about a variety of topics, from solar hot water to building your own solar electric modules, and his travels around the world to help others utilize solar energy.

His web site is www.mainesolar.org.

To find out more about his presentation call 727-843-8786 or visit www.westpascohabitat.com.

Next up we had a local solar contractor join the show; Richard Glueck with Solar Energy Systems in Gulf Port, and a local homeowner that installed his own solar hot water system, Ron Gilbert. Ron talked about how important planning is, and encourages anyone with mechanical skills to consider installing a solar hot water system. Rich talked about the basic types of systems that work in our area; the different types of absorber plates that make the hot water, cost benefits, and much more. You can find out more by visiting the Florida Solar Energy Center website www.fsec.org or the Home Power site www.homepower.com, or Dr Komp’s site.
