ST PETE PRIDE FESTIVAL-Andrew Stelzer

06/28/04

This weekend was a celebration of PRIDE all over the world, as gay, lesbian, bi and trans festivals took place in hundreds of cities. Over 350 thousand people marched in Chicago’s pride parade; 500 thousand danced through the streets of Rio, and up to one million people celebrated sexual diversity in Toronto. For the second year, St Petersburg’s pride festival featured a rainbow flag; this year it stretched over 4 blocks long. Over 20 thousand people came to St Pete pride over the weekend, for music, shopping and a gathering of a community that continues to fight for rights as equals in society. WMNF’s Andrew Stelzer was at St Pete Pride, he asked some of the participants what the event meant to them.
