Adele Stan, the Washington Bureau Chief for Alter Net discusses the recent Vatican displeasure and efforts to control the LCWR- The Leadership Conference of Women Relgious-The LCWR is an umbrella organization of religious communities with 1500 members who represnet 80% of the Catholic Sisters in the United States..The Vtican reprimands the nuns for "focusing its work too much on poverty and economic injustice, while keeping 'silent' on abotion and same sex-marriage. As punishment, the vatican has appointed Archbishop J. Peter Sartain of Seattle to oversee the LCWR for up to five years and has given him final say on every speaker at the group's conference and every public uuterance in its name.
