U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson points out the extent of the oil disaster as of May 9.
Today, several environmental groups sued BP for the effect of the oil disaster on endangered Gulf of Mexico wildlife.
The groups, Defenders of Wildlife, Gulf Restoration Network and Save the Manatee Club, accuse BP of violating the Endangered Species Act and want the fossil fuel giant to restore habitats and mitigate the impact of the disaster that began six months ago today.
Meanwhile, the first book on the BP oil disaster has been released. It’s called In Deep Water – The Anatomy of a Disaster, the Fate of the Gulf, and How to End our Oil Addiction. Yesterday we brought you part 1 of our interview with co-author Peter Lehner. In this second half, the executive director of the Natural Resources Defense Council, talks about the scale of the disaster, and how Americans can move beyond an addiction to fossil fuel.
