Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. I'm Rob Lorei. Coming up today we'll discuss rallies planned next Tuesday across the state calling for voting reform. During last November's elections (and in the weeks before) voters in several Florida counties faced long lines. By some estimates hundreds of thousands of people became discouraged and did not vote because of new voting hurdles imposed by the state government. The progressive activist group Awake the State is planning a series of rallies and marches next week calling on the state to make it easier to vote. We're joined now by two awake the State members- Kofi Hunt and Mike Long.

One of the overlooked changes to voting rights is the decrease in validity of signatures on citizen petitions to change the FL Constitution. Why shorten it to 2 years from 4 years. The Legislature wants control. Florida Independent Voting [fivorg.com] is pursuing an amendment to change our primary election system to Top 2 Open Primary. Why? Bring independents and no party affiliate voters into the primary process. Washington State and California have successfully implemented Top 2. Let's make Florida next!
