Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up we’ll talk with the author of a new book about philosopher Ayn Rand.
Ayn Rand’s ideas have been cited by the Tea Party and many Republican leaders as helping them formulate their approach to government and the economy. Her books such include Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead have been widely cited as giving birth to the modern libertarian movement. Author Gary Weiss has written a new book called Ayn Rand Nation in which he looks at the Russian immigrant’s life, her friends, intellectual partners, follower and critics, Rand died at the age of 77 in 1982… but even today many well known Republicans lift her up as a great thinker and philosopher.
The voices you heard there include Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, Texas Congressman Ron Paul and Kentucky Congressman Rand Paul. Also in there—Fox News hosts John Stossel and Sean Hannity. And from the Wall Street Journal you heard Steven Moore….
Here to talk about the importance of Ayn Rand to Tea Partiers, the Republican Party and the modern conservative movement is Gary Weiss, author of AYN RAND NATION-THE HIDDEN STRUGGLE FOR AMERICA’S SOUL (St. Martin’s Press)
