Barbara Garson is an author, social activist, and American playwright. She is best known for her play MACBIRD. She has written articles for several publications including The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Boston Globe and The Nation. She has written four non-fiction books: ALL THE LIVELONG DAY in 1994, THE ELECTRONIC SWEATSHOP in 1988, MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND IN 2001, and her most recent UP THE DOWN ESCALATOR published in 2013. These books address complex phenomena of the economy through the lives of people and interviews . She notes historical turning points and how people lives are affected and sees the present Great Recession as the result of 40 years of a recession for the salaried worker.
