It's business as usual at Ft. DeSoto's fishing pier, but effects from the BP oil disaster are still effecting some Gulf coast beaches.
A research consortium led by the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science has been awarded $11 million by BP’s Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to study the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The announcement was made today in Washington. USF was one of eight universities to receive funding. U.S. Representative Kathy Castor called it “vital in the ongoing effort to address the environmental and ecological implications of the BP blowout.” She said another benefit would be “investments in valuable technicians, researchers, project managers and scientists.”
