WMNF Drive-Time News Monday | Listen to this entire show:
Last month, judicial candidates running in contested races met with voters at a Suncoast Tiger Bay luncheon in St. Petersburg. WMNF is highlighting each of the eight candidates seeking four different seats. Today we bring you Bill Burgess and Andy Steingold who are running for Pinellas County 6th Circuit Court, group 15. Bill Burgess is endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Suncoast Police Benevolent Association.
“What I’ll bring to the office of Circuit Court Judge is an even temperament, a broad life experience, an in-depth knowledge of the law. I understand what the courts are for and those of you who know me will know this.â€
“For the past 16 years, I’ve been a prosecutor in the office of the State Attorney, Mr. Bernie McCabe, where I’ve prosecuted every type of crime from misdemeanors up through capital offenses. Prior to working in the State Attorney’s office, I served our country as an army Special Forces soldier. I started at the State Attorney’s office the day after I retired.â€
“One of the things that I’ve done in that regard is to author a definitive treatise on Florida sentencing law which is published by West and it is the standard reference used by courts and by judges and lawyers throughout the state of Florida.â€
Andy Steingold, who currently holds an elected position, is endorsed by the Safety Harbor Professional Firefighters.
“Currently, I’m the three-time elected mayor of the city of Safety Harbor where I preside over public hearings, quasi-judicial hearings, hearing and deciding matters fairly and impartially and treating all those who come before the commission with the utmost respect and dignity. Now besides all that, my commitment to the community as a public servant for the last seven years on the city commission has led me to serve on the Pinellas Planning Council.â€
“After four years of prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies, I left to open my own practice as a solo practitioner. For nine years, almost nine years, I was a solo practitioner during which time I focused on the areas of criminal defense, family law – divorce, custody battles, juvenile law, dependencies, termination of parental rights. I also at that time volunteered as a guardian ad litem with the guardian ad litem’s office.â€
The election for this race is on August 14th. Listen to the drive-time news this week for bios on other Pinellas-Pasco judicial candidates.
