Orlando Food Not Bombs volunteer Eric Montanez went on trial today for feeding homeless people on April 4 at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando.

Montanez was arrested under an ordinance enacted in 2006 by the city of Orlando which requires a permit in order to hold “large group feedings” of more than 24 people.

Food Not Bombs routinely shares vegan food with large numbers of homeless people in cities throughout Florida and the world.

Montanez pled Not Guilty on May 4.

Jordan Hunt is with the West Palm Beach chapter of Food Not Bombs and has helped Orlando Food Not Bombs share food with the homeless. Last Friday, WMNF’s Sean Kinane asked Hunt about the arrest of Eric Montanez and the requirements of the new Orlando permit.
