Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Wednesday) | Listen to this entire show:
Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up we’ll talk with the mayor of St. Petersburg about baseball, the Lens and his plans for the future…. And we’ll also hear from an environmentalist who is raising the alarm about the planting of genetically modified trees in the US.
But first, five listener comments about yesterday’s program. Yesterday we spent the hour talking about WMNF’s programming- in light of the fact that we are in the regular two year process of making programming changes. Here’s what five listeners had to say.
Last month several international environmental groups demanded a global ban on the release of genetically modified trees. The groups called for contained studies before genetically modified trees are planted in the open. One of the groups that called on the UN to support the ban on genetically modified trees is the Global Justice Ecology Project. And we’re joined now by Anne Peterman who is executive director of the group.

n St. Petersburg a group is organizing to try to stop the Lens—the proposed replacement for the Pier—the inverted pyramid on the downtown waterfront. The Lens would be a giant, looping walkway useful for walkers, runners and bikers….St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster was asked by WMNF this morning about the effort to stop the Lens.
