Cheri Honkala, 2012 Green Party nominee for Vice President of the United States.
We’re still waiting to hear who Republican Mitt Romney will pick as a running mate; but we already know who the Green Party’s Vice Presidential nominee is: Cheri Honkala. She’s the national coordinator for the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign and was selected by presidential nominee Jill Stein to be on the Green ticket. Honkala is in the Tampa Bay area this weekend for a series of events.
We spoke about her background and the platform of the Green Party.
Ballot access continues to be difficult for any parties besides the two major corporate parties.
Last week Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala were arrested in civil disobedience protesting Fannie Mae.
Both Honkala and Stein are campaigning in Florida this week. Sometimes candidates from parties besides the Democrats and Republicans concentrate on “safe-states” like California, Texas and New York and avoid swing states like Florida. But Honkala said the economic desperation of many Floridians is a reason why she should campaign here.
