HITLERLAND: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power
Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up on the first part of today’s program we’ll talk with Andrew Nagorski, author of the new book HITLERLAND (Simon and Schuster). It’s a book about Americans living in or visiting Germany in the 1920’s and 30’s as Adolph Hitler rose to power. The book includes eyewitness accounts from journalists, diplomats, socialites, intellectuals, labor organizers, artists, performers and athletes. Some were famous at the time- such as aviator Charles Lindbergh and author Sinclair Lewis. Others were soon to be famous- such as broadcasters Howard K. Smith, CBS’s William Shirer and a young Harvard Student named John F. Kennedy.
