Our guest is David Perlmutter, MD. he's a Board-Certified Neurologist and Fellow of the American College of Nutrition who received his M.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. In his new book he says that reducing our risk of Alzheimer's and dementia as we age can be done by making more healthy diet choices. Dr. Perlmutter wrote last month on Huffington Post that there is a correlation between diabetes and Alzheimer's. He says "But diabetes, now affecting some 26 million Americans, is avoidable. Rarely, Type 2 diabetes develops without any readily identifiable predisposing factor. But in the great majority of cases it is brought on by lifestyle activities, including, and clearly most importantly, dietary choices. This means that this disease, so strongly correlated with risk for dementia, is generally a choice.
