Katherine Switzer first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon02/28/13 "Makers:Women who Make America"
From A Woman's Point of View | Listen to this entire show:
As part of the documentary MAKERS; WOMEN WHO MAKE AMERICA Katherine Switzer recounts the events and her running of that historic 1967 Boston marathon. As the first woman to officially finish the race, she realized that the race was not only important for herself but for women in general. Women were not allowed to run beyond 800 meters on tracks at that time, and it was a significant statement to undermine the beliefs that women were too weak to achieve such a feat. The three hour documentary will be aired on Feb 28 at 9 pm ET on WEDU in Tampa. The documentary can also be viewed by going to the website www.makers.com
