From A Woman's Point of View | Listen to this entire show:

Laura Gottesdiener is the author of a forthcoming book from Zucotti Park Press-"A Dream Foreclosed: The Fight for a Place to call Home". Laura discussed the immediate response of the members of the former Occupy New York to Hurricane Sandy. They were organizing relief efforts even before the storm had passed. In many instances, Occupy NY were the first, and at times the only, responders. Occupy was there before the Red Cross. Laura noted the over 6 million dollars spent to eradicate Occupy New York might have affected the occupant's territorial space, but not their commitment to creating the human bridges necessary for survival. Laura wrote the piece "After Sandy, communities mobilize a new kind of disaster relief" You can read this article at wagingnonviolence.org
