Leslie Savan writer, talks about the Cleveland kidnappings and the week in general for women.
Leslie Savan blogs for the Nation about media and politics. Leslie was a 3 time finalist for a Pulitzer Prize with her columns and writings about advertising and mass media in the Village Voice. She has had articles in the New Yorker and the New York Times Magazine She is the author of SLAM DUNKS and NO BRAINERS. Leslie talked about the "week that was" in which not only the Cleveland women who were kidnapped and escaped were in the news, but as well the report of the increased sexual assaults and rapes in the military and the effects of the sequestration on the closing of so many women's shelters throughout the USA. Leslie reported that in a sense the week was not unusual-perhaps the Cleveland cases seemed more "sensational" but all in all the overall violence against women that last week represented, was too typical.
