Coming up today activists will be holding a rally this Thursday in downtown Tampa to protest the ongoing wars and in solidarity with the Wall Street protests. We're joined now by Marianne Huber who is with St. Pete For Peace, one of the groups organizing this Thursday's event.
From the group's press release:
"The month of October marks the 10 year 'anniversary' of the invasion of Afghanistan and the onset of the 2012 Federal Austerity Budget. The war in Afghanistan serves as the longest in U.S. history, and has spanned almost as long as both world wars combined, costing the lives of more than 12,000 Afghan civilians (PBS, 9/9/2011) and almost 1,800 Americans (The Guardian, 9/1/11).
"The protest, held in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and this week's Occupy DC actions, will take place from 4:30-6:30pm in front of the Federal Courthouse in Tampa, 801 N. Florida Avenue. Co-sponsors of the event include St. Pete for Peace, Tampa Bay YaYa, Nature Coast Coalition for Peace and Justice, The Refuge, Veterans for Peace – Tampa Bay, Friends of Human Rights, CAIR Florida, Islamic Community of Tampa Bay, and PDA Florida."
