Our Fall & Winter vegetable gardens09/19/11 Jon Butts
Sustainable Living and Alternative Health | Listen to this entire show:
On today’s Sustainable Living program our very special guest was the farm manager for Sweetwater Organic Farm www.sweetwater-organic.org Roberto Saenz. Roberto talked a little about the new farm site at the Tampa Children’s Home, and gave us an overview of what the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) provides. The rest of the program’s topic was on growing vegetables; such as what to grow now, what your soil make-up should be, and some of the insect problems you might encounter. A lot was said about what and when to use cover crops; and another important topic was nematodes. The University of Florida (UF) is the best source of information on growing vegetables in our area. Get it right from the start; get the IFAS (Institute for Food and Ag Science) garden guide at EDIS (UF’s Electronic Data Information Source). We also mentioned National Food Day, and the “Transitions†weekend training session at the Roosevelt 2.0 coming up in October.
