WMNF Drive-Time News Friday | Listen to this entire show:
Hillsborough County School Board member April Griffin will run for re-election despite previous claims that she wouldn’t. Her change of mind comes on the heels of a heated debate within the school district over transportation issues, a culture of bullying among staff and concerns by Griffin that Superintendent MaryEllen Elia isn’t a good leader. Griffin and fellow school board member Susan Valdez have told WMNF they want Elia gone if things don't improve.
According to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections website, ten candidates are running for Griffin’s seat. So far Charles Raymond Brink, who has backed Griffin in previous elections, has raised the most money - $65,000. Two candidates, John Evon and Russ Patterson will withdraw candidacy and endorse Griffin. Griffin expects Brink to withdraw as well. WMNF was not able to independently verify that.
