Since 1992, the Rev. Barry W. Lynn has served as executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to the preservation of the Constitution's religious liberty provisions (www.au.org). Lynn discussed recent controversies involving the Ten Commandments, prayer in schools, faith based initiatives and the growing influence of conservative Christians in the Republican Party.

CAROL MAILLARD of Sweet Honey. Carol attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where she studied violin and majored in drama. While in D.C., she began her professional acting career with the DC Black Repertory Company. A founding member of Sweet Honey in the Rock, she rejoined the group full time in 1992.

Sweet Honey will be in concert at Mahaffey Theater, Thursday, February 24 at 8 p.m. The performance is presented by Eckerd College.

AIDS IN FLORIDA - Mitch Perry

New AIDS cases in Florida leaped by 24 percent last year, but some state health officials say that those high numbers may be fueled in part by a campaign of HIV testing that found new cases.

Nevertheless, this is the state’s first significant jump in new AIDS cases in more than a decade, since the introduction of anti-retroviral drugs in 1996.
