In less than three weeks the Republican National Convention kicks off; Most of the events are in Tampa, but on Sunday August 26, St. Petersburg is hosting a giant party for delegates, dignitaries and journalists at Tropicana Field.

Occupy Tampa is winding down its use of a West Tampa park and appears to be agreeing to vacate it by September. The park’s owner, Joe Redner said Occupy Tampa will leave by September 15.

“I talked to them and they said “Sure we will be out of there by the 15th”. It’s not being used by anybody but the homeless people. There’s no Occupy down there.”

The City of St. Petersburg has purchased an armored vehicle less than one month before the kick-off event for the Republican National Convention. But team leader for the St. Petersburg Police Department’s SWAT unit, David Gerardo, said the more than $200,000 expense isn’t related to the massive event being held at Tropicana Field.

Activists camping in tents on the property of a private business in downtown Tampa may be forced to leave. On the conflict at the Romneyville encampment set up to protest the Republican National Convention next month.
