Women's Show-YOUNG ACTIVISTS who attended RNC protests

Amberly Banks, a student at USF and Christine Aikman went to New York to protest the lack of responsiveness of government. They are concerned about many issues including peace. Christine was arrested while there and shared her experiencesin the infamous 57th St. Armory and Amberly talked about the lengths she had to go to to avoid being arrested while walking toward Madison Square Garden. They talked about their hopes for change in the future.

KATE CLINTON will be appearing at the Players Theatre in Sarasota, Saturday, September 18 at 7:30 pm. This is a benefit for ALSO OUT YOUTH which provides peer support services, educational programs, advocacy and referrals for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning youth, their families and friends and the community. Kate talked about gay marriage, the Republican National Convention and other current political issues.

Betty Castor, now officially the democratic party’s nominee for senate, spent her entire election day yesterday in Tampa, going from one neighborhood to another trying to drum up voters support. After winning an overwhelming victory yesterday over Peter Deutsch, Castor appeared this morning surrounded by democratic senators, who are now on board the castor campaign. TECO WANTS TO CUT A DEAL WITH THE PSC-Andrew Stelzer

For the past year consumer advocates have been trying to force TECO to admit they signed a contract with one of their on subsidiaries to transport coal to Florida across the gulf of Mexico, and paid them more than the market rate, resulting in higher electricity rates for consumers. POLICE BREAK UP MARCH IN NYC-Bill Hamilton

One of the protest in ne York City yesterday was the “pop peoples march’, organized by the kensington Welfare Rights Union. While by all accounts the march was peaceful, when it approached amdison square garden, chaos temporarily broke out when police attempted to break up the crowd into two groups. TAMPA BAY WATER MOVES FORWARD ON NEW DESAL MANAGEMENT-Andrew Stelzer

The Tampa Bay Water board met today to consider two proposals to fix and rebuild the disastrous desalination plant near Apollo beach. Built in 1997, the plant turns seawater into drinking water for much of Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties, but the first two companies who operated it went bankrupt, and the filters have been damaged by not being operated correctly.
