POLLS SAY FLORIDA EVENLY SPLIT IN PRESIDENTIAL RACE - Mitch Perry

A new poll suggests Senator Kerry has pulled even with President Bush in Florida.

The Quinnipiac University survey of 808 likely voters put Bush at 48 percent and Kerry at 47, well within the three and a-half percent margin of error.

A Quinnipiac poll two weeks ago had Bush ahead 51-to-44 percent.

DEBATE FOR PINELLAS COUNTY COMMISSION-Andrew Stelzer

There are 4 seats of the Pinellas county commission up for election this November 2nd, but 3 of them have the incumbent leading by wide margins. Commissioner Barbara Sheen Todd is stepping down, leaving the race for her at large countywide seat open for competition. The two major party candidates are Ronnie Duncan and Norm Roche, and they debated this afternoon at a meeting of the Suncoast tiger bay club in Clearwater. WMNF’s Andrew Stelzer was there and filed this report.

AMENDMENT 5 ON MINIMUM WAGE - Jen Germaine

Florida House Representatives Arthenia Joyner and Bob Henriquez came out today, in downtown Tampa, to speak about voting YES on Amendment 5.

In the park, across from the County Center, where people were lined up for early voting, Representatives Joyner and Henriquez, joined about 40 members of ACORN, to support the state's minimum wage increase from $5.15 to $6.15 per hour.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY HEALTH CARE PLAN - Mitch Perry

Since 1991, the Health Care plan created by the Hillsborough County Commission has been lauded as one of the finest in the nation……..The plan originally authorized a half cent sales tax to create a program for the indigent in the County…… The tax was lowered to a quarter cent back in 1997…..
