REGISTERING LATINOS IN FLORIDA TO VOTE - Radioactivity

Danny Suarez/John Maldonado are organizers with the group MI FAMILIA VOTA. They are registering local latinos to vote in the coming election. Their goal is to improve turnout among Hispanics, which is one of the fastest growing groups in the country. They told WMNF that many immigrants are afraid to take part in the election system because of past experiences with corrupt or dictatorial governments in their homelands.

NADER OFF BALLOT AGAIN-Andrew Stelzer

For the second time in the past week, Ralph Nader is again off Florida's presidential ballot. This afternoon, Circuit Judge P. Kevin Davey ordered that Nader's name be removed from the November ballot. Davey had made the same ruling last week, based on the statements that the Reform Party isn't a legitimate party under state law, even though the reform party had no lawyers in the courtroom, so no evidence was able to be presented to the judge. NURSING HOMES NOT GETTING POWER RESTORED QUICKLY ENOUGH-Andrew Stelzer

After suffering through 2 hurricanes and bracing for a third, Advocates for seniors are calling for power companies to reprioritize their essential services list, so that nursing homes have their power turned back on earlier. Lumarie Polivka-West, is policy director at the Florida Health Care Association, a statewide group that represents senior care facilities.
