Responding to a request by the U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Governor Jeb Bush yesterday made his first trip to the economically devastated country to demonstrate South Florida's solidarity with the Haitian people.
The daylong trip not only highlighted U.S. support for the interim Haitian government through President Bush's brother, but also raised hopes that economic progress might soon be on the horizon.

Today a group of former senior diplomatic officials and retired military commanders-- issued a bracing statement arguing that George W. Bush has damaged the country's national security and calling on Americans to defeat him in November.
The group, called Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change, argues that the Bush Administration is not just estranged around the world but even from America's own bipartisan foreign policy and military establishments.

Today the county commission voted against adopting a living wage for county employees and people who contract with the county. The grassroots campaign for a living wage has been taking place for the last two years. President Bush visits Tampa tomorrow, but unless you work at MacDill Air Force Base or are in the media, you'll have to probably catch it on television.
The President is scheduled to arrive at MacDill around 10:30 AM...He will then give a speech, and be back on Air Force One out of Tampa air space by 11:30.

Last week, the Bay walk entertainment complex in downtown St. Petersburg changes their policies as they relate to dress codes and groups of people walking around in the complex. They did so after 8 months of protest by the UHURU movement, who claimed the police discriminated against young people, especially young black people. A vocal group of concerned citizens of the midtown area of St. Petersburg gathered at the Wildwood Recreation Center on Saturday for a town hall meeting.
