Film, "Bruised, Battered, Broken" by Debra Hussong. SCOPE, Sarasota County Openly Plans for Excellence, conducted a study project on Family Violence - community and individual response. Marylee Bussard, Project Coordinator, Community Studies talked about the project.

Women's Show - POV film

POV opens the season on PBS with the film, "Farmingville" directed by Catherine Tambini and Carlos Sandoval. The film deals with the effects of undocumented workers in a small community on Long Island. It focuses on this wave of immigration and "hypergrowth destinations" -- how a community responds to this, particularly from the perspective of 3 women.

FAHRENHEIT 9-11 OPENS-TAMPAS REACTION-Andrew Stelzer

Fahrenheit 9-11, the new film by director Michael Moore which explores the monetary gains made by President Bush, his cabinet and friends from the war on Iraq and paints that war as being fought by poor Americans for the profit of defense contractors, opens today in theatres nationwide. Fahrenheit 9-11 opens with a scene from Florida—Al Gore and his supporters celebrating an apparent election night victory, which would later be called into question.

According to a poll released yesterday, Florida voters overwhelmingly oppose the opening of voter-registration records.

TAMPA'S CITY COUNCIL ON REZONING, STREET FAIRS, AND CRIME-Andrew Stelzer

At today’s city council meeting, the Tampa city council heard a report back from its key staff retreat, where a vision statement was created for the city of Tampa: Tampa will be recognized as a diverse progressive city, celebrated as the most desirable place to work play learn and live. As they do most every week, the citizens of Tampa challenged the council to live up to this statement. WMNF’s Andrew Stelzer was at city hall and filed this report.

REPUBLICANS SEIZE ON ACT USING FELONS - Mitch Perry

Yesterday the Asssociated Press reported that an independent group playing an important part for John Kerry's presidential campaign here in Florida and in other states - has paid felons - some convicted of sex offenses, assault and burglary - to conduct door-to -door registration drives.

The group - America Coming Together, is an independent organization, independent of the Democrat Party party, but has been working to register new, preferably Democratic voters.
