A survey of 800 Florida state residents finds that 81 percent of likely voters are in favor of renewing the national assault weapons ban, and 80 percent of FloridaÃ¢â¬â¢s likely voters favor strengthening the ban to include new assault weapons that have been created since the ban was instituted in 1994. Among the respondents, 64 percent of gun owners favor keeping the ban, 62 percent of NRA supporters want to keep the ban, as well as 85 percent of women, and 74 percent of NASCAR fans. A Florida Wildlife Federation - National Wildlife Federation Poll released today reveals that most Florida Hunters and Anglers - who voted for President Bush by better than a 3 to 1 margin in 2000 - oppose administration policies that that destroy wetlands and roll back environmental protections.

Today, protests were being held in front of the Supevisor of Elections offices in 7 Counties in Florida, including Sarasota, Pasco and Hillsborough.......The activists are demanding that the Supervisors agree that a voter-verifiable trail for the county's touch-screen voting machines should be required - if not for this year, then for next year's election.
