INTRO: In Pasco County today, Richard Paey was sentenced to twenty five years in prison for fifteen counts of drug trafficking, obtaining a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Paey has maintained all along that he was innocent and that medicating himself was not a crime. WMNFÃ¢â¬â¢s Mark Antokas has the story.

Last night Tampa became the 290th local municipality to pass an Ordinance denouncing parts of the controversial USA Patriot Act.
The preminent legal organization that has been fighting against parts of the Patriot Act has been the American Civil Liberties Union.
Today in Tampa, the executive Director of the Florida ACLU, Howard Simon, addressed that law and other issues at a speech at the Tiger Bay Club.

Many election poll watchers have said that Whichever Presidential candidate wins Florida will win the election. Some go further than that, saying that Florida itself will come down to the I-4 corridor stretching from Tampa to Palm beach, and beyond that, it may come down to how the Hispanic population is this area votes. With that in mind, a new campaign was launched today to register 50,000 new Hispanic voters. George Murselli is leading the campaign.

Local Tampa attorney and former WMNF Board President Becky Steele has been named Director of the ACLU of Florida's newly-opened West Florida Office near downtown Tampa.
Steele has previously worked for the powerful lawfirms of Trenam, Kemker and Holland & Knight, and a year ago opened her own practice primarily representing employees in benefits disputes and appeals. She is also currently the president of the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers.
