Elsie Allen and Fernando Cuevas of the Central/North Florida Carpenters' Regional Council say that immigrant workers are routinely exploited by employers - from withholding information about worker's compensation, training, and safety to being threatened with deportation. Sears says that Americans' high consumption of carbohydrates results in more cases of diabetes, ADD, arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer's, obesity and other chronic diseases. He says that his research shows that high doses of fish oil can counteract the results of a high carbohydrate diet. Kathy Kelly is a longtime peace activist with a group called Voices In The Wilderness, along with her co-worker Jeff Guntzel, they travelled to Israel and the occupied territories last month to view the effects of the Israeli military action. Sid Goetz, the head of the South Pinellas chapter of Americans United For Separation of Church and State discussed his group's opposition to involvementin National Prayer Day by government and elected officials. Goetz charges that the National Day of Prayer Task Force is a vehicle by which our country's conservative religionists seek to inject their particular brand of Christianity into civil government. Solomon Garcia of Michoacan, Mexico fractured his back when the scaffolding he was working on in Orlando collapsed. This was eight months ago. Initially, his employer did not mention that his medical bills and lost wages were covered by worker's compensation. It was only when organizers from the Carpenters Union suggested he apply for worker's comp that he was able to get financial help.
