Late last week members of the group Food Not Bombs celebrated the news that they had persuaded Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio to drop criminal charges against members of their group who had been arrested recently for feeding the homeless at Massey Park in downtown Tampa.
So For now, Food Not Bombs can continue to provide food in the Parks on Sunday without fear of arrest.

The trial of Tyron Lewis continued today in St Petersburg. Lewis was killed by a St Petersburg police officer in 1996, a civil disturbance followed, in which angry black residents set fires in the street, angry about another act of violence by law enforcement against African Americans. Lewis family is seeking a verdict of wrongful death, and wants the city of Saint Petersburg to pay them. INTRO: Last night, the Zephyrhills City Council attempted to put to rest racial divisions which have resulted from a street name change. Florida U.S. Senator Bill Nelson was in Clearwater this morning, speaking to the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce.... ...Although it was announced that he would be speaking about new anti-tobacco legislation, Nelson instead focused predominantly on the war and occupation in Iraq.

On Friday night in Sarasota, the Southwest Florida Peace Coalition sponsored a screening of the short documentary Ã¢â¬ÅHuman Shield.Ã¢â¬? It has currently been screened at over 20 film festivals around the nation, and won best short documentary at the Tampa Bay Film Festival. Every year a group called pastors for peace breaks the Unites States travel restrictions, and go to Cuba to deliver food, medical supplies, schoolbooks, and other donated supplies.
