A new television ad campaign advocating for combating climate change begins airing today throughout Florida.
The campaign is being sponsored by two environmental groups who have recruited a dozen business and community leaders.
Jay Liles is a policy consultant with the Florida Wildlife Federation. He says that his group can do all the advocating in the world, but it won’t have as much impact as the businesss community embracing climate change.

A conservation group yesterday included the St. Johns River on its annual list of the most threatened rivers in the nation.
American Rivers said the state’s longest river could be robbed of much of its water in a misguided attempt to quench “the unending thirst of out of control development “ in Florida.
Andrew Fahlund is vice president for Conservation at American Rivers. He told WMNF why taking the water out of the St. John’s would be so calamitous.

Pinellas County Commissioners today disregarded the recommendations of their staff and the staff of the Pinellas Planning Council (PPC) by unanimously approving a change in the county’s land use plan.
The amendment will allow construction of a Lowe’s big box hardware store on property previously zoned for industry on U.S. 19 in Tarpon Springs. Lowe’s will be required to spend about $4-million on traffic changes on the site.

A new poll released today shows broad support across all parties for federal legislation requiring cuts in global warming pollution to combat climate change.

Hillsborough County Commissioners today approved the biggest change in mining boundaries in Hillsborough County in more than a decade.
The Mosaic Fertilizer phosphate company hopes to add more than 1,500 acres to its approximately 25 square mile mine near the four corners where Hillsborough, Polk, Hardee and Manatee counties meet.
There has been considerable opposition to the plan from residents and Tampa Bay Water, who wants the company to test for heavy metals at its new mining site....
