Earlier that day, Cohen and his Council colleagues supported the new ordinance crafted by Mayor Bob Buckhorn's administration on the "Event Zone," the portion of downtown Tampa that has a series of rules and regulations regarding those who plan to protest during the Republican National Convention in late August.

On Thursday Tampa City Council approved almost a half million dollars for equipment and infrastructure for the Republican National Convention in August. Some of that money will be used to purchase lighter-duty uniforms for police officers.
