Protestors from all points on the political spectrum gathered at busy intersections across the state yesterday to rally against red light cameras. The demonstrations come less than a week after Tampa City Council voted to install 20 of them at dangerous intersections throughout the city.

On Tuesday, civil liberties defenders held demonstrations across the state to protest red-light cameras.
On the Last Call, callers gave reasons they support or oppose local governments using red-light cameras to ticket drivers who run lights.

Tampa has a new Mayor. Bob Buckhorn was inaugurated this afternoon in a ceremony at the Tampa Convention Center.
The seven members of the Tampa City Council also took their oaths of office this afternoon. Mary Mulhern, Yvonne Yolie Capin, and Charlie Miranda are returning members. Mike Suarez, Harry Cohen, Frank Reddick, and Lisa Montelione are new Council members. Miranda was elected new chair with four votes.

Some Tampa water customers received unusually high water bills around the end of last year. Today a task force formed to figure out the cause of the spike presented a report to the Tampa City Council. But Council members weren’t happy that they did not have time to read the report they were given this morning before the presentation. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio delivered her final State of the City address at the Tampa Convention Center this morning to a room full of supporters. She had glowing things to say about Tampa’s progress over her tenure, but Iorio said there was one missing piece.
Iorio said she had some lofty goals in when she first took office in 2003. The mayor, who leaves office at the end of this month due to term limits, said she accomplished most of them.
