The Northbound section of the Howard Frankland Bridge will need to be replaced sometime in the next decade or so. That leaves a host of options for transit agencies on both sides of Tampa Bay.
During a stakeholder meeting in Pinellas County Tuesday, the Florida Department of Transportation’s district planning manager, Ming Gao said the plans could include some premium transit options.

Hillsborough County has a new type of traffic signal: a flashing yellow arrow. Drivers traveling on Fowler Avenue near Thonotosassa may encounter the new type of light at the Jefferson Road intersection.
The flashing yellow arrow directs motorists in the left turn lane to turn with caution after first yielding to oncoming traffic. Kris Carson, Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson says a national study shows the benefits of the new signal.

Florida may be getting more money for its proposed high-speed train. And it’s thanks to some states rejecting the federal funds. Federal Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has told Florida’s Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson that Florida will get some of the money rejected by Wisconsin and Ohio. Beginning in just a few years, you’ll be able to take a bullet train from Tampa to Orlando in under an hour. But before then the high-speed rail line needs to be built. Half of the roughly $2.5 billion dollar project has been funded through the federal Recovery Act.
The Florida Department of Transportation is hosting meetings this week in the three cities where the bullet train will stop; Today in Tampa, tomorrow in Lakeland, and Thursday in Orlando.
