The U.S. Congress reached an agreement at the end of last year to temporarily avoid what was being called the fiscal cliff of automatic spending cuts and tax increases. But they just put aside the stand-off until the end of this month. The Natural Resources Defense Council is warning that if the deep cuts go through it could negatively affect clean air and water. WMNF’s Seán Kinane spoke with Scott Slesinger, director for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Natural Resources Defense Council releases beach water quality report listen

The Natural Resources Defense Council recently released their 22nd annual Vacation Beach Water Quality Report. The findings show an overall rise in pollution at beaches around the US, but Florida fared better than most states.
According to NRDC’s results, Florida’s beaches ranked 5th in Beachwater Quality out of 30 states. Only 3% of samples in the Sunshine State exceeded national standards for beaches in 2011. At beaches like Fort DeSoto, and Sand Key less than 5% of water samples exceed...

Today, several environmental groups sued BP for the effect of the oil disaster on endangered Gulf of Mexico wildlife.
