Democratic senators clocked an all-nighter, working in shifts into Tuesday morning to warn of devastation from climate change and the danger of inaction.

More than two dozen speakers agreed with each other about the need to act on climate change. Republican naysayers largely stayed away, suggesting hours earlier that regulation would cost Americans jobs in a sluggish economy.

Syria’s foreign minister announced today his country will declare its chemical weapons arsenal and sign chemical weapons convention.

The Syrian government has accepted a proposal from Russia, its most powerful ally, to give up its chemical weapons stockpile. France has announced that it plans to introduce a Security Council resolution to ensure international verification of the disarmament, but it might be opposed by Russia.

By a vote of 82 to 15 Tuesday, the U.S. Senate cleared the way for debate on bi-partisan legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.
