According to the CDC, more than 4,000 kids commit suicide each year and some of them do it as a result of bullying. A national anti-bullying group threw a fancy fundraiser last night in Tampa to raise money for outreach programs in schools.

At the swank Aqua lounge in the Westin hotel on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, members of the group GLSEN – Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network – sold raffle tickets for prizes for everything from signed hockey sticks to baskets full of booze. G...

On today's Last Call we talked about bullying. A disturbing story in the local press this week highlighted the plight of 17 year old Zach Gray. He attempted to hang himself with a chain last year because, his parents say, he was tormented by bullies every day at Zephyrhills high school. Brain-damaged and unable to speak, Gray now requires around the clock care.

Whether online, via cell phone, physically or just harsh words, bullying is bullying and Hillsborough County is trying to stop it.

“We raise awareness we hopefully are helping at least bring attention the problem of bullying help stop some of it, and encourage kids to report it, help parents understand and know if their child is being bullied or if their child is a bully.”
