Last Friday the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it would open up licenses for new low-power FM (LPFM) radio stations beginning next October.

An institution in Tampa’s urban radio landscape is no more. WTMP, which airs R&B on 96.1 FM and 1150 AM is changing its format. One programmer who was laid off when they switched to automated programming this week is Jarvis El-Amin. He hosted a community talk show called Honest Opinion and says he’s not sure what type of programming will be next.
