Tampa is consistently ranked in the top five most dangerous metropolitan areas for bicycle and pedestrian deaths.

A recent accident where a child was killed crossing a section of Busch Boulevard that lacks crosswalks prompted a discussion on safety at Tampa City Council Thursday morning.

Tampa City Council member Mary Mulhern questioned Debbie Hunt from the Florida Department of Transportation.

Late Monday law enforcement agencies released a list of roads that will be closed and other transportation limitations in Tampa and St. Petersburg during August's Republican National Convention.

According to the document (which can be found below) many downtown Tampa roads, including the Selmon Expressway, will be closed for a week. Pedestrians will be restricted south of Brorein St.

One important part of the transportation network for any city is safe and easy access for bicyclists. Tampa has begun enhancing bike lanes on Bayshore Boulevard between Rome Avenue and the Davis Island Bridge.
