Castor says no to a Florida re-vote

Yesterday, Hillsborough area Congresswoman Kathy Castor, a Barack Obama superdelegate, said she was against any type of re-vote in the state. Castor said the leader in pledged delegates in the race (currently Obama), will resolve the dispute over the delegates before the convention, avoiding a convention battle over the nomination. WMNF spoke with Rep. Castor from her office in Washington a short time ago.

Although there is still considerable question whether they’ll be seated at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August, registered Florida Democrats throughout the state came out this past Saturday to vote in caucuses to select delegates for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Based on the results of the Jan. 29 primary, Clinton received 67 district level delegates, Obama got 41, and John Edwards won 13.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported today that the Texas Democratic Party is warning that its March 4 caucuses could be delayed or disrupted after aides to White House hopeful Hillary Clinton raised the specter of an "imminent" lawsuit over its complicated delegate selection process.

The paper reported a knowledgable Democratic source said Clinton’s political director, Guy Cecil, had pointedly raised the possibility of a courtroom battle with Democratic Party officials.

Going into next week’s series of four primary elections, Barack Obama hold a 91-delegate lead over Hillary Clinton. But who are these delegates? And when the question comes to Florida, will they count?

A lawsuit filed by a Tampa Democrat against the Democratic National Committee over Florida’s loss of all of its delegates to the convention has been given a second life.

In August, political consultant Vic DiMaio filed suit against the DNC, claiming that stripping Florida of its Congressional Delegates because of the early primary voting date was unconstitutional. But in October, federal Judge Richard Lazzarra threw out the case.
