Yesterday there was a devastating earthquake in Haiti. Communications between the US and the Caribbean nation have been disrupted. But we know the outline of the story- so far- reports indicate thousands of people have been killed. Many more have been injured or are still trapped in the rubble. Authorities in Haiti fear the death toll of yesterday’s massive earthquake to be in the thousands, though they have yet to offer an official number. The magnitude 7.0 quake that struck 10 miles west of the Haitian capitol of Port-Au-Prince leveled hospitals, schools, a prison, and many other buildings.

President Barack Obama said today that his administration plans a relief effort that will be “swift, coordinated and aggressive.”

Late this afternoon local Hatian solidarity groups met at Good Samaritan World Outreach Ministries to plan their relief efforts for Haiti’s earthquake victims. Local groups like Prince Charles Scholars, and Heart to Heart Caribbean Ministry united around the effort to establish contact and relief for friends and family that are still in Haiti.

Harvard trained doctor works with HIV/AIDS patients in Haiti listen

Dr. David Walton is a Harvard trained physician who has worked with the group Partners in Health since 1997. He divides his time between Boston and Haiti, where he’s an expert on the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
