A parade honoring veterans took place at James Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa this morning. More than thirty-five units including veterans service organizations, high school bands, and Gasparilla krewes were part of the procession. The Wharton high school band played military fanfare for the ceremony.

The U.S. military’s Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new headquarters in Tampa this morning at MacDill Air Force Base. SOCCENT is a subordinate unified command of US Central Command.
SOCCENT’s rear headquarters is at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, and their forward headquarters is in the Persian Gulf country of Qatar.

Rain did not stop hundreds from gathering at East Lake High School on Saturday for the second annual Military Day and Veterans Resources Fair held by Rep. Gus Bilirakis. While most of the crowd was there to enjoy the festivities, about 50 protesters rallied on the edge of the school property.

Conservative bloggers continue to bash CNN today, after the cable news network admitted it dropped the ball during Wednesday night’s GOP debate by allowing Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr to ask about the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell“ policy banning open gays from the military.
