Next Thursday President Obama and Vice President Biden are coming to Tampa for the first time since the election. Proponents of high speed rail are hoping he will announce that Florida received the $2.5 billion for the project.
This morning WMNF asked Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio if she thought Obama was coming to Tampa to announce if Florida had won the bid.

Tuesday, President Obama revealed his plan to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan at a cost of $30 billion this year. Obama says the surge will begin to pull out in July of 2011.
Congresswoman Kathy Castor served on the Armed Services Committee during her first two years in congress. There, Castor says she saw a lack of resources available to forces fighting in Afghanistan.

Barack Obama was elected as the 44th president of the United States one year ago today. Residents in the Tampa Bay area shared their thoughts on Obama’s performance over his first year.
Last November 4, Obama beat McCain by 52 percent to 46 percent with nearly two-thirds of the Electoral College. Even with a Democratic congressional majority, Obama’s performance has met with mixed reviews. Marcy Goss from Tarpon springs expressed dissatisfaction with Obama’s performance thus far.

In perhaps his most anticipated address in his young presidency, Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of 3,000 invited guests at Cairo University in Egypt today. The President said he seeks a new beginning between the U.S. and Muslims around the world.
