While groups around the country are remembering the victims of 9/11, other groups are marking the day for a different reason. A group of Peace activists rallied at USF and downtown Tampa today to remind people that American lives weren’t the only ones lost as a result of the attacks that day. Gonzalo Valdes with the group Tampa Against the War on Terror said more people were lost post 9/11.

“9/11 was the beginning of this war on terror. That’s when the world changed. I personally feel...

As America marked the tenth anniversary of September eleventh yesterday, the county’s attention was fixed on remembering lives lost in the now infamous tragedy. But while many folks used the day to justify retaliatory military action such as the Wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, some people in Tampa promoted a message of peace.

More than 20 activists have been arrested in Orlando since the city began enforcing its ordinance making it a crime to feed people in public parks. But recently Orlando and the local Food Not Bombs chapter have come to an agreement that has, at least for the time being, stopped arrests. Instead of public feedings being in a downtown park, the activists have agreed to feed people in front of City Hall. But St. Petersburg resident Jimmy Dunson was arrested before the agreement. He has a court a...

Across Florida the Food Not Bombs movement is going through a revival. It may be due to unemployment, foreclosures, and restrictions on homeless feedings in Orlando. In Tampa Bay new Food Not Bombs chapters are formed and volunteers share food and literature in support of the Orlando volunteers who got arrested for handing out poor to the homeless and needy. The St. Petersburg chapter is growing fast, says volunteer Alex Nadeau. He quit his corporate job and now works for free: he feeds the h...
