The Hillsborough County Democratic Party hosted a fund raising event yesterday in Tampa’s Channel District. The event was an art sale, open to all interested residents, co-sponsored by U.S. Congressman Cathy Castor and City Council Member Mary Mulhearn.

Former Tampa Mayor Sandy Freedman is a strong Hillary Clinton supporter. She attributes the fact that so many superdelegates have chosen Clinton over Barack Obama to the power of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Freedman is not happy with the decision to cut Florida’s congressional delegation in half, and she’s as unhappy as Clinton advisor Harold Ickes about how the delegate breakdown came out in Michigan.

Megan Foster is a grassroots Tampa Bay area Democrat.

At the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting on Saturday, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson invoked her name when talking about how Florida’s 1.75 million voters who participated in the Jan. 29 primary should have their vote counted.

Foster, who supported the idea of restoring Florida’s delegation with half their votes, thought Nelson was on a different page.

In less than 48 hours, the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee meets to decide what to do with the delegates in Florida and Michigan.

Sen. Bill Nelson is scheduled to make a presentation shortly after 9:30 a.m., representing the Florida Democratic party. He’ll be followed by Florida DNC member Jon Ausman and Tampa Sen. Arthenia Joyner, representing the Clinton campaign. It is not known at this time who will represent the Obama campaign.

The Hillary Clinton camp refused to say today whether they’ll appeal if the meeting this Saturday of the Democratic Party’s Rules and By-Laws Committee does not rule in their favor.

The meeting this Saturday in Washington could potentially end the divisive issue of whether or not to seat Florida and Michigan’s congressional delegations, which have not counted since the national party ruled those states disobeyed party rules by moving up its primary date.

Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller today announced that he has filed suit in federal court to force the national Democratic Party to recognize the votes cast by 1.75 million Floridians during the Jan. 29 presidential primary and seat the state’s delegation with full voting authority.

Geller is an uncommitted “super delegate.” There are two other plaintiffs, a Barack Obama delegate and a Hillary Clinton delegate.

With Barack Obama coming to Tampa tomorrow at noon at the *St. Pete Times Forum, Hillary Clinton has decided to spend some quality time in the Sunshine State as well. Clinton will make three appearances in South Florida tomorrow.

Clinton appears in Boca Raton at 1 p.m., in Sunrise at 4 p.m. and at the University of Miami in Coral Gables at 8.
