The neighborhood association around the Occupy Tampa encampment wants the group to go. People have been camping in Voice of Freedom Park since December. It’s privately owned which leaves the city and community without many options.

Over the weekend, basketball fans were focused on Orlando, host of the NBA All-Star Game and associated festivities. But the group Occupy Orlando held their own, less flashy, celebration they called “All Share Weekend.” They billed it as a time for community, food, entertainment, art and education … all without the huge price tag of the All-Star Game. Today the Tampa City Council passed a partial ban on panhandling on street corners. After the four to one vote, street solicitation is now banned every day but Sunday. Tampa City Council has broken the tense deadlock by passing a partial panhandling ban. Council vice chair Mary Mulhern fought to stop the ban, to no avail.
