Sarasota County may soon have more strict controls on growth in rural areas. One of the two questions on the ballot during a special election next Tuesday asks voters whether County Commissioners should unanimously agree to any changes to the comprehensive plan outside the urban service area boundary (USB).

A federal lawsuit asking that Florida’s delegates to the Democratic National Convention be seated was amended and re-filed yesterday.

Previously a Tampa judge had said that Tampa Democrat Victor DiMaio did not show that he had standing to file the lawsuit against the national party, the DNC. But in a press conference today, DiMaio’s attorney, Michael Steinberg said the new lawsuit proves DiMaio’s standing.

Yesterday the Barack Obama campaign announced that Tampa businessman Frank Sanchez has been named National Chairman of Latino Fundraising for the campaign.

Sanchez has already been active with Obama as adviser on Latin American issues, and as a chief fundraiser here in Florida.

Sanchez previously worked in the Bill Clinton administration as an Assistant Secretary of Transportation where he oversaw international negotiations.
