New Polls released today on the GOP side show the race for in Florida is literally too close to call. A Quinnipiac poll has John McCain up by a point over Mitt Romney, 33 to 32 percent.

But another poll released this afternoon by a small polling organization out of North Carolina, Public Policy Polling, has Mitt Romney up by 7 points on the eve of the race.

A group of elected Democrats held a news conference today to formally ask the Democratic Party chairs in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, to release the candidates for president from their no-campaign pledge in Florida.

The major candidates all signed such a pledge after the Democratic National Committee declared that no delegates would be awarded in the Jan. 29 primary because the state went against DNC rules in pushing the primary up to January....

In one week, Floridians go to the polls to vote on Amendment 1, a property tax cutting proposal that would reduce revenues for local governments. The Democratic candidates for president showed little interest in last night’s Michigan primary, instead participating in Las Vegas in a nationally televised debate, four days before the important Nevada Caucuses.

Today in Gainsville, a coalition of voting rights advocates went before a U.S. District Court judge to challenge a state election law that they say could disenfranchise tens of thousands of eligible voters next year.

The law prevents voters from registering if their driver's license or Social Security information does not match what is on the registration form.

Tonight in St. Petersburg there will be a public hearing to discuss offshore marine fish farming.

The meetings has been called by the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council. Tentative plans are to allow open water aquaculture off the gulf – growing fish in nets or cages between 3 and 200 miles from shore.

A new report by the group Environmental Defense details the effect of climate change on Florida’s economy.

The report is based on research by an economist from Tufts University. It is called Florida and Climate Change: The Costs of Inaction and compares two specific climate scenarios based on how much carbon dioxide pollution is emitted into the atmosphere during this century.
