GOP Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite is downplaying reports that some stock purchases she made last year have created a conflict of interest problem.

A Cleveland Plain Dealer story published last Friday showed that Brown-Waite, along with several other members on the House Financial Services Committees, bought or sold stocks at the same time the federal government was spending billions of dollars into financial markets.

Brown-Waite says she lost money on her trades, and voted against the $700 billion dollar bailout plan.

A potential candidate against the Brooksville Representative in 2010 is criticizing her for those trades.

Democrat Jim Piccillo from Land O' Lakes says Brown Waite needs to be investigated.

WMNF contacted Congresswoman Brown-Waite’s press office in Washington for comment. She did not return our call by airtime.
